    Q&A Archive 2008

QUESTION 1: Hi Tommy! First of all, I want to thank you for your role in keeping KISS rocking for the past two decades. I've been a fan since the seventies, and it's great that you're not only the lead guitarist, but a huge fan of the band as well. I'm guessing that I have you to thank for the addition of songs like "Love Her All I Can" and "Kissin' Time" to the set in recent years. My question is regarding the non-make-up material that featured Bruce Kulick on guitar. I know that the Les Paul is almost as much a part of the spaceman persona as the silver make up and lightning bolts, but I was wondering if you would ever consider using a guitar equipped with a whammy bar for songs like "Unholy" and "Tears are Falling." Are you guys going for more of an Ace Frehley vibe on the Bruce stuff? Also, is there any chance of you convincing Gene and Paul to add Carnival of Souls material? Many of us really love that album and would enjoy hearing it live. Hope to see you and the rest of KISS in New York in 2008! - Charlie K, Wantaugh, NY

Question 1: Tommy, I just want to thank you for your continued support of our Armed Forces. I have been with the KISS Army forever, and the Air Force for 17 years. I want you to know how much you are appreciated as a member of KISS, and your undaunted support for the troops. I truly enjoyed meeting you on the Rock The Nation Tour backstage, it was an honor to meet such humble person. Good luck to you and all your endeavors, and I can't wait to see you and/or your work, which is truly first class. Thanks for all you do.
    - Brent Mickley, Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota

Question 2: Hi Tommy, I love your guitar style. It is reminds me some of Steve Clark/Def Leppard style. Anyway, about your guitar gear... Do you prefer Les Pauls that have a wide 50's neck or slim 60's? Do you also use stock Gibson pickups or aftermarket Duncans?
Kind Regards, Ken Crouch, Memphis, Tennessee

Question 3: Hello Tommy, I saw you and Gene bowling on the Rock the Nation DVD and was wondering how long you have been a bowler and your highest score?
    Peace, Kevin Corren, Sunnyvale, California

Question 4: Hi Tommy, I read recently that the Rock The Nation Live! DVD achieved platinum status for sales in the US, is that true? The reason I ask is because I hadn't heard anything about it.
    Thanks, Zach Hartnett, Austin, Texas

January 2007 Q&A with Tommy Thayer

Question 1: Hey Tommy, I'm a really big fan of yours. You are a great guitar player and I would say a very good role model. I would like to ask you, say if the planets line up and KISS makes a new album what do you think your guitar solo technique would be? Do you think you will stay closer to Aces solos or would you start your own type of sound?
    - Jay Bendici, Toronto, Ontario Canada

Question 2: Hello Tommy. I was just wondering who your favorite guitar players are? I play guitar too. I grew up listening to Eddie, Randy, Ace, Angus and of course Jimi.
    - Mario, Chicago, Illinois

Question 3: Hi Tommy, I am in a band called "Ace." Suprisingly, it didn't evolve from Ace Frehley's name! Anyway, we are planning to play an instrumental rendition of "Love Gun" in a few of our shows. I realized that on the "Love Gun" record and on other songs, it seems as if you guys are not tuned in standard tune. Am I correct? If so, could you kindly tell me how you guys tune your guitars? I would love to hear form you. Thanks for your time.
    - Kameron, Grundy, Virginia

Question 4: Hey Tommy, I was just wondering what kind of guitar and equipment I would need for getting my third guitar? Is there any kind of foot pedals you would also recommend for me?
    - Tommy White, Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada
