OCTOBER 2004 Q&A With Tommy Thayer!
Question #1 Dear Tommy, what was the first time you met Gene Simmons face to face like? I am sure you are, as they say, a family member now, but then, you must have been thinking something you weren't going to say out loud! "I'm not in Oregon anymore!" - - Kelly Bravo, Bloomfield, NM
ANSWER: The first time I met Gene and Paul was at a KISS show in Long Beach, CA in 1984. They had heard of my new group Black 'N Blue which had just released our first album. It is astonishing how an event like that can come full circle and evolve like it has over 20 years!
Question #2 If you could form a super group other than the one you are in now, with you on guitar, who else would be in the band with you? I am 15 and just discovering 70's rock! - - Maicheal Laurie, Palisades Park, NJ
ANSWER: I like the 'other than the one I'm in now' part. To be honest with you, I've never been a fan of the 'super-group' concept. I'd rather get together for a jam with someone like Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton or Jimmy Page which would be a thrill..
Question #3 Off the top of your head, what restaurants did you stop at while on tour that stand out? Maybe a roadside diner in the middle of Kansas? I have this fantasy that one day KISS will pull up in a tour bus! - - Oliver Marx, Henderson, NV
ANSWER: The concept of KISS pulling up to a truck-stop in a tour bus doesn't really happen. We're fortunate enough to have our own private jet we're usually in and out of the particular city we're playing soon after the show. On off days we've been known to stop into a great local restaurant and enjoy the cuisine!
